Fireplace Center

Branding

Project Scope

This was a passion project I did in my third year of graphic design. The objective of the project was to design something we were passionate about that would showcase the skills we learned throughout the years.

Throughout my three years of studying graphic design, my strong suit and passion were always branding. So, deciding to do a branding project was a no-brainer for me.

Purpose & Goal

The purpose of this project was to simply sharpen my design skills even further. The goal for me was to design a new logo for a made-up client, along with a stationery set. I wanted to create a portfolio-worthy branding project.

Planning

The first step for this project was to establish who my client was. I did some research on different companies to get some ideas and eventually fell upon a fireplace store. I had a strike of inspiration and decided to go forward with that.

So, after deciding on the type of company I would be designing for, I needed to establish the client's vision. To do so, I created a moodboard of the overall look the client envisioned for the brand.

The direction for this redesign was warm, rustic and welcoming. Since the company primarily sells fireplaces, the design should resemble the feelings a fireplace can give people. Also, since the target audience was adults, the redesign should feel refined and mature.

Sketches

The next step was to start the sketching process. I went ahead and jotted down any ideas that came to me. I primarily sketched out different types of flames, some more abstract than others. Eventually, I came up with a few that had potential that I could move on to the screen with.

Once I had some sketches I was happy with, I headed to the computer. The main concept I played around with was a modern-looking fireplace. I experimented with its length and height. I also had a few other concepts that were more abstract.

For the wordmark, a classic serif font was perfect to give it that rustic, mature look. As for the colour palette, I went with warm tones such as orange and yellow to give off that fireplace warmth.

Final Design

The final logo I went with was the modern fireplace. I settled on the longer length because it fits nicely on top of the wordmark. The final design is modern and sleek but the colours and type still give it that warmth.

Benefits

The benefit of this new logo for this made-up client is that it reflects what the brand is about. Fireplaces are warm and comforting while also being modern and classy. The simple look of this logo is sure to draw in their target market and give the company more sales in the long run.
